Backup SMS for Sony Ericsson Phones

You will be able to backup your SMS on your Phone using the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. But you will not be able to move the messages back to your phone from the computer. So you just keep the backup of the SMS on your computer only.

Please take note that you must use Phone Mode for Connections. This allowed the PC Suite to access all Phone Contents.

 

Click on Text Messages on the left side bar. You will be able to access all your sms on your phone.

Backup SMS to PC Suite

• Click on the message you want to backup
• Right Click and choose Copy To
• Choose the Phone Profile 
• SMS is now backup to this Profile

My Phone Profile is My W705 and I will see all the SMS I backup to this profile. I will be able to backup SMS here and then delete it on my Phone.

Backup Sony Ericsson Phone for Firmware Update

Data such as contacts, messages, photos, files and settings stored in the phone memory will be overwritten during an update since the software in your phone will be completely replaced. To avoid losing your personal user data, you should always create a backup of your contacts, messages, photos and files before you update the software.

Content stored on your memory card and SIM card will not be affected.

W705 Tip #4: Wifi Setup

It is easy to setup WiFi on your Sony Ericsson W705 with just 3 clicks. You will then be able to surf the net using your Home WiFi Router or Free Wireless Hotspots.

Setup Wifi Guide

• Go to Menu - Settings - Connectivity - Wifi
• Turn on Wifi
• It will search for Wifi Network within range
• Your Wifi Network SSID Name will appear
• Click and connect to your Wifi Network SSID
• Enter WEP Key if your Network is protected
• It will prompt to save your Wifi Network as Favourite

It will connect to your Wifi Network and you will see a WiFi Logo on your top screen just beside the Network Signal Strength Bar. You will now be able to surf the net using the WiFi signal. If you lost your Wifi Signal, it will display Disconnected from Network on the top of your screen. If you proceed to surf with the WiFi signal disconnected, it will connect using your Mobile Network GPRS.

W705 Tip #3: Sony Ericsson PC Suite

Plug in the USB Cable and choose Mass Storage for using this applications. It will auto setup your Phone Memory and your External Memory Card for transferring of Music to your Phone. It can also be link to your iTunes so that you can drag and drop the Podcast onto your Sony Ericsson Phone. Just drag and drop the music from the PC Pane to the Phone Pane. In the Phone Pane, select whether u want to put the files on the phone or external card memory.

W705 Tip #2: Supports Thread Messaging

W705 supports Threaded Messaging just like the current Window Mobile Phone and iPhone Series. In W705, Threaded Messages is also called Conversations. You will be able to see all the messages that you and the other party are communicating. In addidtion, it has another function which also allowed you to see individual SMS Message also just by going to the Inbox. Window Mobile Phone or iPhone does not have this extra service but only Threaded Messages.

Conversations

This is the term name for Threaded Message for Sony Ericsson Phone. In here, you will be able to see all the messages you are currently exchanging with the other party. You can scroll to the mesaage and get details like when it was sent and received. In addition, you can also scroll to your desire message and choose to delete the particular message or all those older than this message.

W705 Tip #1: Data Charges

W705 users must take note of their data usage if you are using the Play Now Plus features to download free songs from Sony Ericsson. Each songs is around 2MB to 5MB and therefore you will using a lot of data usage. You must ensure that you have a data plan if you want to use the Play Now Plus. Play Now Plus is available on Singtel W705 sets only while M1 and Starhub W705 only has the Play Now.

It is your responsibilities to ensure you have a data plan and do not assume you have it with the plan when you bought it. There are some Singtel users who have incurr high data charges when downloading free songs from Play Now Plus as their plan did not comes with a data plan. The songs maybe free from Play Now Plus but if you do not have a data plan, you will need to pay for the data downloads. 

I have a Data Plan of 50GB from my Singtel Corporate Plan at $7 only. Normal data plan will start from $3.21 depending on the data plan you are subscribing to. It is best to take up a data plan with min 500MB data and above. If you are not downloading songs, then a data plan of less than 200MB may be sufficient for your usage.

Sony Ericsson W705 Review

Sony Ericsson has introduced it's latest Walkman phone series, the Sony ericsson W705. It's a slider model and 3.5G Walkman Phone. The Sony Ericsson W705 comes with a 2.4" QVGA display capable of showing up to 256K colors. In addition, it has a 3.2megapixel camera, and an FM radio with a RDS. 

It is Wi Fi enable and you can surf the internet for free at free local hotpspots in your country. GPRS is available in this model but you can still use Google Map on this phone. It will be handy if you are lost or need some help to find your ways. It features Shake control and SenseMe which is much needed for a Walkman series and has 120 MB of internal memory. It also gives u a free 4GB memory card included in the phone package which adds to the base memory of the phone.

The Singtel W705 comes with free unlimited downloads of songs from PlayNow Plus and this is exclusively for Singapore Singtel Customers only. In line with this, Singtel is providing a free data plan, BBOM worth of 200MB free for 1 year. The W705 is retailing from SG$98 onwards depending on the price plan you are taking up.
